About Meshi Charms

Each Meshi Charm is a tiny sculpture, hand-formed from earthenware clay with no molds used, resulting in natural variation in shape and color. Fired twice and glazed by hand, then assembled on handmade headpins crafted from 14/20 gold-filled wire and finished with gold-filled ear wires. Each piece is one of a kind and uniquely yours.

Clay Meshi prioritizes quality materials chosen for longevity rather than quick wear. That's why we finish our earrings with gold-filled findings. The gold-filled wire allows us to make earrings that feel substantial and enduring. The bonded layer of sold gold provides strength and warmth without sacrificing comfort, and is generally well tolerated by sensitive ears.

From the artist:
Clay Meshi began as a mother and daughter project rooted in memory, food, and making things by hand. Dōzo is a Japanese phrase of offering, a gentle ‘here you go’ or ‘please, go ahead.’ My grandma had a funny way of saying dōzo when she handed us onigiri, often after we had already started eating them. Those moments stayed with us. What began as tiny ceramic rice balls made so my daughters could wear small versions of the food their great grandmother prepared has grown into a platform for small meaningful creations. Each piece is a quiet offering, made with care, meant to be received.

Care Note

Meshi Charms are kiln-fired ceramic, finished in a thin layer of glassy glaze. They are strong enough for regular wear, but like all ceramic, they can chip or break if dropped or knocked against hard surfaces. Please handle and store with care.
